LONDON — The advance buzz on British Web sites suggests the long-awaited Lotus Eagle may get a new name — Evora — when the midengine coupe is unveiled Tuesday at the 2008 British Auto Show.

Lotus released the first official shots of the car last week. Sales begin next spring, with annual production of 2,000 units planned. Power will be supplied by a Toyota 3.5-liter V6 that makes 280 horsepower. Variants are said to include a convertible and a high-performance two-seater.

One U.K. Web site, Wheels Weekly, evoked the dreaded E words several times in a single sentence, observing that "the new Eagle or Evora to us is an evolution of the Europa, attempting to create a [new] Elise."
